Guizhou, China

4 Days on The Underground Route — Paddling, Rappelling & Sipping Through Guizhou's Wildest Caves

Into China's Hidden Underworld

Guizhou sits on one of Earth's largest karst plateaus . Over millions of years, water has carved the limestone into underground rivers , sinkholes, and towering peak forests found nowhere else at this scale. The province holds over 4,000 known caves — many unexplored — along with China's deepest tiankeng (giant sinkholes) and longest subterranean river systems. A geological wonderland hidden beneath green.

Beyond the stone, Guizhou is one of China's most ethnically diverse provinces. Miao, Dong, Buyi and over a dozen groups have shaped this highland for centuries, building stilted wooden villages into mountainsides, perfecting silver-work and indigo dyeing , and preserving oral traditions through song and festival. Natural spectacle and living culture overlap here — untouched by mass tourism.

Our Itinerary

4-Day Trip

Day 1 Paddling the Underground River

Shilong Cave SUP Exploration

Paddling into Guizhou's Underground Wonderland

An hour from Guiyang, Shilong Cave is among Guizhou's iconic karst water caves — formed 2 million years ago. Named after a 10-meter "stone dragon" on the ceiling, it went viral on social media with over 30 million views — an adventure benchmark.

The highlight: SUP paddleboard cave exploration . In wetsuits and life jackets, visitors glide through clear pools — navigating narrow passages, ducking beneath low ceilings. The 3–5 hour journey leads to a cavern of sapphire-hued pools , Guizhou's most photogenic underground scene.

The cave maintains a spring-like temperature year-round . Stalactites , stone curtains, pillars rise like sculptures, while travertine dams and calcification pools create an otherworldly landscape. Headlamps reveal extraordinary formations—evoking Pandora from Avatar.

Once a hidden secret, Shilong Cave has quickly become Guizhou's hottest adventure destination . Gliding through luminous pools or squeezing beneath ancient rock, every stroke a conversation with the earth—an unforgettable encounter with Guizhou's underground soul .

Day 2 Descending into Earth's Core

Libo Forest Cool Park

Guizhou's Ultimate Cave & Jungle Adventure

In Libo County, Cool Park spans 6,000 acres of primeval woodland in the Sancengdong Nature Reserve. Hundreds of karst caves hide beneath dense canopy of rare flora — a wild frontier where Guizhou's geology meets adrenaline.

The signature: Earth's Core Adventure . Zip-line into an underground cave, exploring stalactites, fossil walls, lotus ponds, and subterranean rivers by headlamp — then a 21-meter vertical bungee and glass boats through an underground river into the planet's hidden heart.

Above ground, the park offers cliff-edge coffee perched 200 meters high, mountaintop swings, jungle hiking, and slacklines threading through ancient forest. A 3-kilometer trek leads into primeval wilderness — ideal for forest bathing and outdoor education among stone forests and rare plants.

What sets Cool Park apart: cave dining culture — hot pot served inside a karst cavern, cave bars, and overnight wild-luxury camping . Coaches hold 60+ hours of training. From zip-lining into darkness to sipping coffee above the clouds, this is Guizhou's most immersive adventure playground .

Earth's Core Expedition (The Small Loop)

Beneath Libo’s karst forest lies a hidden underworld — and the Small Loop is the fastest way in. In just 2–3 hours , this adventure distills Earth’s Core into a compact, adrenaline-packed journey through caves few travelers ever see.

It begins with a zipline descent into the cavern. With helmets and headlamps on, guests wind through passages lined with stalactites, fossil walls, and lotus pools , then board transparent glass boats to glide over a subterranean river in darkness.

The finale features "Dark Meditation" , plunging the cave into total darkness as ambient music echoes off million-year-old walls. Then comes the signature "Vertical Cool Jump" — a 21-meter free-fall drop that tests every nerve—serenity and adrenaline just one breath apart.

All participants wear professional safety gear and are led by certified coaches with 60+ hours of training and 2+ years of field experience. Pair the experience with the park’s cave hot pot for a full day of above-and-below-ground wonder in China’s most extraordinary karst landscape.

Day 3 Coffee on the Edge of the World

Libo Cliff Coffee

The World's Most Thrilling Cup

Perched on a 200-meter cliff face in the park, this is China’s only cliffside café . It was ranked No. 1 on the 2023 "Top 100 New Travel Experiences in China" list—turning an ordinary coffee break into a gravity-defying adventure.

Getting there takes determination. Guests suit up in professional safety gear , hike 1.6 kilometers through primeval jungle for 90 minutes, then tackle a 70-storey vertical climb . The final step is a 20-meter rope-ladder descent to seats bolted into the rock face—only then does the coffee arrive.

Back against rock, feet dangling over the primeval forest canopy , guests sip brew amid mountain ridges and negative-oxygen-ion air . The wooden platform features a bookshelf and calligraphy banner reading "悬崖咖啡馆," creating an unexpectedly cozy atmosphere at a breathtaking height.

More than a café, Cliff Coffee crowns a full-day wild-luxury adventure . With Earth's Core cave exploration , jungle trekking, and cave hot pot dining , it offers adrenaline and serenity — why Guizhou ranks among China's top "adventure provinces" .

Day 4 The Lost Cave of Ziyun

Ziyun Dajiao Cave Exploration

A Real-Life Journey to the Center of the Earth

Dajiao Cave sits in the Miao Yalu King cultural zone , known for cliff burials and cave dwellings. Stalactites, stalagmites, stone columns, and flowstone pools create a gallery formed over tens of thousands of years .

Downstream of "Miao Hall" Cave there is one known entrance, its exit undiscovered . The expedition spans 6–7 km : about 1 hour hiking and up to 7 hours underground. A boat takes explorers to the entrance, where they gear up with helmets and SRT systems.

A 60–70 meter SRT rope descent drops you deep into the abyss — a white-knuckle rappel where the bottom vanishes into darkness. Further in, headlamps pick out ancient formations, while water-sculpted mineral deposits glitter like subterranean constellations — hauntingly beautiful.

All professional caving equipment is provided (excluding personal clothing and footwear). Please assess your fitness in advance — this is a genuine expedition , not a leisurely stroll.
